2024 bud Break

During the week of March 18th while conducting our complete plant inventory in the vineyard we observed first bud break amongst the Merlot.

The small size of the vineyard (1 acre) affords us the opportunity to get up close and personal with every plant. We have developed a simple spreadsheet that allows us to report each plant’s condition and easily visualize those plants from the office for areas of the vineyard to target for extra care (targeted release of lady bugs, use of organic oils to assist in disease prevention, etc.).

We should be done with the complete Spring 2024 assessment by April 12th.

One interesting thing to note is that the property at the beginning of Meadowlark on the east side has a small vineyard and it is already leafed out (small leaves to be sure)… our slope does seem to keep a bit milder temperature than even that slightly higher elevation provides…
